Our Worship Services
Worship is central to our congregational life together at First Church.  In worship, we are knit together with God and with one another.

Each Sunday morning, we gather at 9:00 in the chapel and at 11 in the Sanctuary for the worship of God.  Worship services are dialogues between the congregation and God.  In scripture, sermon and silence we listen for the word of God; in prayers --  spoken and sung --  we respond.

The congregation is led in worship by the pastors, liturgists, elders and musicians.  Holy Communion is offered each week at the 9:00 a.m. "Service of the Lord's Day" and on the first Sunday of each month in the 11 a.m. "Sunday Celebration."

On the third Sunday evening of each month, our Eventide service, held in the chapel, offers worshippers a chance to "come and find the quiet center from the crowded lives we lead" through scripture, music in the Taize tradition, silence, communion and prayers for wholeness and healing.

Vocal choirs are offered for all ages, from Kindergarten - Adult.

  • Chancel Choir (adults and interested youth)
  • Youth Group Choir (grades 6-12)
  • Carol Choir (grades 3-5)
  • Cherub Choir (grades K-2)

Instrumentalists are provided regular opportunities for participation and are encouraged to make their talents known to Marlon Hurst, Director of Music and Arts.

THE ARTS
In addition to the music that is presented in our worship services, First Presbyterian offers a series of artistic events titled "Faith and the Arts." We seek to honor God through the celebration of creativity.

In celebration of the visual arts, we are a participant in the Lexington Arts and Cultural Council's Gallery Hop

A variety of concerts and recitals are regularly offered in both the Sanctuary and Chapel.

First Church is proud to serve as the Lexington home base for the acclaimed chorus, the American Spiritual Ensemble.
