LEXINGTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, INC. is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian ministry that cultivates partnerships with families in need, sponsors and volunteers to build simple, decent, affordable housing in Fayette County, Kentucky. Lexington Habitat brings people from all walks of life together, without discrimination, in order to create a stronger, more caring community. Further, as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Lexington Habitat supports global building projects.
First Presbyterian’s involvement with Habitat for Humanity dates at least back to 1991 when we participated in the 15-House Build. On September 20th FPC hosted a catered congregational dinner for 250 with Millard Fuller (Habitat founder and acquaintance of Pastor Jeb Magruder) addressing the public in a full sanctuary following dinner. And, yes as many FPC women can attest, Paul Newman did dine with us! Since that time we have partnered with other sponsors to help build one home each year.

The Mission Ministry Team is pleased to announce that this year, First Presbyterian Church will remodel a home with our
2011 Partner,
The Ngandu Sankayi family.
Household
Steve - 11/96 (son)
Yves - 11/96 (son)
Tessia - 7/00 (dau)
Jacques - 6/04 (son)
Gaston and Sylvie moved directly to Lexington from Congo in 2008. They fled from Congo for the safety of their family. In Congo, Gaston was a judge, and due to the political change it was no longer safe for them. Sylvie worked for a communication company.
Sylvie now works for Thompson Hood Veterans Center. Gaston was recently hired part time at Accipio Language Services where he translates between English, Swahili, French, and Lingala. He is also trying to attend college to get his Law degree here. Steve and Yves both play soccer. Steve is great on the computer and wants to be an airplane engineer. Yves wants to be an engineer designer. Tessia attends Lexington Traditional Magnet School. She also likes to play soccer and loves to read. Jacques "likes anything funny." He likes to play around and be on the computer. He wants to play soccer like his brothers.
As a family they go to the park to play soccer or ride bikes. They also like to go hiking. Together they attend Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.
Gaston and Sylvie want the feeling of being American homeowners. They are looking for more space for their children and a backyard, but they don't have enough income to buy an adequate house through traditional means. They are very appreciative of Habitat and everyone that will help them build their house. Working with others they see the willingness, passion, and generosity of others and are looking forward to learning what they can.
FPC will started to work on September 21st and will be working periodically through November. Please check the calendar on the Mission Bulletin Board at the church for the rest of the work schedule.
