Since well over 18% of Fayette County children have no insurance, the focus and mission of Baby Health has evolved from offering free milk to infants into providing total health care to children between the ages of birth through 12 years. Over the years, Baby Health Service has developed a pediatric health clinic that provides free medical care to children whose families are ineligible for a medical card, yet cannot afford health insurance. These are the children of the "working poor," who often fall through the cracks in our current health system. In 2008, over 3,000 children received medical care at Baby Health.

The staff consists of 11 physicians who volunteer their time on a rotating basis. While Baby Health Service depends on volunteer board members to work in the clinic, the only paid staff consists of a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and two R.N.'s.

First Presbyterian Church has a long history with Baby Health Service as many of our members are current or former members of its Board of Directors. As a member of the board, volunteers solicit funds through grants, foundations, corporations, and individuals in our community. These volunteers also commit to working several hours in the clinic in ordere to facilitate the running of the clinic during clinic hours.

In order to help build awareness of this powerful ministry, First Church has chosen Baby Health Service to present their ministry at the Bowl and Bunns & Friends concert on April 16th (8:15) through the Music for Mission [link to page] series.
