Faith and the Arts Program Series 2005-2006 

First Church offers myriad opportunities for you to "Discover the Spirit of Creativity!"  With our Faith & The Arts series of programs, you can explore religion, faith and God through the visual arts and music events.

The Worship and Arts Ministry Team is very pleased to announce our Faith & the Arts program series for 2005-2006. 

 

LexArts' Gallery Hop 

Our Gallery will once again participate in the LexArts' Gallery Hop.  Our season of exhibits will be:

 

September 1 through October 31:   Orthodox Icons

 

November 1 -- January 31:  "Hewn From Rock": Youth Group Mission Trip Photodocumentary

A visual narrative of the First Presbyterian Church Youth Group's recent mission trips to Saltillo, Mexico.  Exhibit coordinated by Kay Hofmeister and Susan Combs.

 

January 1 -- February 28:  R everand Charles Murray

Reverand Charles Murray's photography explores the inherent spirituality of people, places, and the natural world.

 

March 1 -- April 30:  Artist, Theresa Beaumont and Photographer, Br. Paul Quenon: 

Ms. Beaumont makes an encore appearance with her contemporary, soulful artistry.  The exhibit will also include contemporary photography by Gethsemane monk, Paul Quenon.

 

May 1 -- June 30:  FPC Members' Art Expo: 

Our annual celebration of the visual artistry of First Church members.

Music Events include:

 

October 2:  Elijah. 4:00 p.m., Central Christian Church
Felix Mendelssohn's famous oratorio telling the dramatic story of Elijah, the prophet.  Sung by our Chancel Choir and soloists, with the combined choirs of Central Christian, Maxwell Street Presbyterian and Christ Church Episcopal.  Dr. Ben Arnold, Director of the UK School of Music, will give a pre-concert talk at 3:00 p.m.

 

December 11:  Lessons & Carols, 8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
Our traditional service filled with readings of Old Testament prophesy, New Testament fulfillments and beautiful music that celebrates the glory of this holy season.  Features Chancel, Youth and Children's Choirs.  Free.

 

December 18:  A Christmas Concert, 7:30 p.m.
J. S. Bach's Cantata 140, Sleepers, Awake! and Traditional Carols: An evening concert by our Chancel Choir and soloists, accompanied by chamber orchestra.

 

January 15:  The American Spiritual Ensemble.

This beloved choir, under the direction of Dr. Everett McCorvey, will sing a concert at First Presbyterian Church.  
Tickets are available through the Downtown Arts Center box office.  The box office is located at 141 E. Main St. (directly across the street from the downtown Lexington Public Library).  You may also charge tickets by phone at 225-0370.

 

February 21The Concordia Choir at 7:30 p.m.

and the American Guild of Organists, Lexington Chapter                                   


One of the premier undergraduate choral ensembles in the United States will make a rare Kentucky concert appearance at First Presbyterian Church.  This is a concert you will not want to miss!

April 13:  A Multimedia Passion Service. 7:30 p.m. 

The last hours of the life of Jesus recounted through instrumental and choral music, and visual arts.

 

To promote this upcoming season, we have a supply of beautiful posters that are available to be placed throughout the community.  Our very special thanks to Terry Keys for the poster design.  Please see Marlon Hurst to obtain posters, and then help spread the word by putting them up in places where you frequent!
